This is part of a very interesting interview with Mr. Garnier who is the CEO of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). GSK has been in the news recently following the position that Warren E. Buffett has opened in this pharmaceutical giant.

Mr. Garnier is recognized as the chief architect of the GSK merger and talks about:

  • his views on business
  • the strong focus on R&D
  • charitable efforts
  • how to handle crisis
  • the focus on shareholder value
  • and the demanding role of a CEO

Some of you might have heard of Joe Mansueto, also called the ‘quiet billionaire’. He is the founder and CEO of Morningstar. He is considered a real entrepreneur, actually founding the company in his apartments 23 years ago!

Morningstar is a publicly traded company with over 315 million USD in annual sales and Mr. Mansueto’s most recent net worth estimate stands at 1.2 billion USD.

We recently found this video interview with him that we think is really interesting. He talks about his philosophy, entrepreneurship, how he has been growing Morningstar and the unique entrepreneurial culture which they try to foster.

A real recommendation from our part - the video is on brightcove.tv: here.

Enjoy.

Silver prices have started to move sharply higher and Coeur D’Alene (CDE) is up over 25% since we talked about this stock back in June (original post: link).

As we already discussed, this company gives investors a change to participate in the inevitable increase of silver prices due to the fact that the world has nearly run out of silver and it is also interesting as a hedge against the economic downturn and current market conditions.

For an interesting interview on the future of silver, please see the ‘Investors Pumping Silver’ video interview from TheStreet.com: here.

For those of you who have never heard of Markel, it markets and underwrites specialty insurance and programs to a variety of niche markets. However, more importantly for us, it has a strong investment side of the business that is modeled on Berkshire Hathaway.

We recently came across this interesting interview with Tom Gayner who runs the asset management side of the business. He is a Buffett disciple and is a seasoned investor who always has an interesting take on markets and investments.
