pollIt looks like our readers would rather wait until early next year before starting to consider any kind of housing purchase. Here are the detailed results:

  • Buy now: 25%.
  • Wait until early next year: 50%.
  • Wait for clear signs of recovery: 25%.

Despite the fact that prices are probably not going to go a lot lower, consensus seems to be that they will go a bit lower and most people are still in a wait and see mode… hoping that 2009 will mark the beginning of a new start.

Our feeling is that we might have to be a little more patient than earl ’09….

Poll Results: US Dollar Outlook Wednesday, November 26, 2008

poll4It looks like our readers are USD bulls. When asked on views on the year-end USD trend, the majority voted for continued strength.

Here are the results:

  • … Dollar strength: 60%
  • … Dollar weakness: 0%
  • … Don’t know: 40%

We’ll have to see how this actually plays out but we also feel that – especially due to de-leveraging and risk aversion – the dollar will continue to have strength until conditions stabilize, funds close their year and the outlook becomes clearer.

poll3

It looks like our readers are quite bullish on commodities and we could not agree more!

Here are the results:

Do you think the correction in commodity prices was:

  • … Justified, they will be more stable 22%
  • … Too severe, they will bounce back 67%
  • … Don’t know, don’t really understand them 11%

Indeed, the sell-off does seem very severe but beware of the short-term trend… most of you have probably been keeping up with the latest news with the miners, oil and especially Russia… the correction still has to play-out before things start to stabilise. There is still a lot of uncertainty in the markets!

Here is the breakdown:

  • Positive = 45%
  • Negative = 39%%
  • Don’t Know= 15%

To be honest, we were a bit surprised – not with the outcome – but by the negative sentiment… time will tell but it is clear that it will be a difficult and bumpy ride.
